HollywoodNews.com: Carey Mulligan has put herself in the front-running for the highly-coveted role of Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.”
Both Vulture and The Sun believe Mulligan is the lead contender. Apparently, Leonardo DiCaprio, who is set to play Jay Gatsby, and Luhrmann loved Scarlett Johansson after she tested. However, ScarJo, looks to have a scheduling conflict.
“The Great Gatsby” is scheduled to go before the cameras in the spring. ScarJo is set to work on Cameron Crowe’s “We Bought a Zoo” with Matt Damon.
Both actresses offer two different takes on the role: Mulligan with her pixie, innocence and Johansson who is smoky, vamp.
British actress Rebecca Hall and “The Town’s” Blake Lively were also known to be hot for “Gatsby.”
Mulligan is currently shooting the indie film “Drive.”
